Dr. Y. James Kang is the Chief Scientist, Tasly Biopharmaceutical Company, Tianjin; Professor and Director of the Regenerative Medicine Research Center at Sichuan University West China Hospital; Director of Sichuan Regenerative Medicine Research and Technology Center; and Professor Emeritus, University of Louisville, Louisville, KY, USA. Dr. Kang received his Ph.D. in Toxicology and Cell Biology at Iowa State University in 1989 and completed postdoctoral training in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Cornell University Medical Center in 1991. He was Assistant Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of North Dakota School of Medicine (1991-1996); Associate Professor and University Scholar (1996-2001) and Professor and Distinguished University Scholar (2001-2017) in Medicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of Louisville School of Medicine. He served several US-NIH study sections from 1997 to 2006, and other US federal agencies including USDA, US-EPA and US-Veterans Administrations from 1996 to 2005. He was an elected Fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences since 2001, and he was the Editor-in-Chief of Cardiovascular Toxicology (2001-2022). His research interests are in regenerative medicine, focusing on MSCs, tissue injury signaling and organ rejuvenation. He made a major breakthrough in 3D bio-printing of stromal cell-based vascular graft for human implantation, leading the field of MSCs in organ rejuvenation.
